Perfect item I wish I got long ago!
I have an 85 lb dog so of course he doesnt notice the couple ounces hanging from his collar (I leave it on full time unless we go to the beach). But I think this would be appropriate for all size dogs except for maybe the smallest "toy" dogs.
My dog is brindle color so he's pretty much perfectly camouflaged in any dark/wooded/dirt area. Before I got this light, I would sometimes look around for him after letting him off leash at night, and start shouting for him only to realize that he was 4 feet away from me sniffing a bush. He spends a lot of time with his nose to the ground and his chin mostly blocking the forward facing light, but he moves enough and the light swings around enough that I can still spot him within a couple seconds even when he's facing away from me. I'm still searching for a light to mount to the top of his collar for when we go camping or other times I'm comfortable letting him roam further, but this product 100% works as intended.

I got red by the way, and it is bright with plenty of contrast to the surroundings. I would probably avoid green or white lights for this application as those colors might not provide as much color contrast to surroundings.
The light does not bother my dog in any way, though I haven't used the blink settings. I now just keep it on his collar all the time and turn it on when we go for night walks whether I let him off leash or not - definitely provides extra safety for us both especially with dark winter nights coming and streetlights in my neighborhood being sporadically placed.
Pro tip: With coin cell type batteries, buy replacements in bulk packs on amazon. Drug stores charge insane markup on coin cell batteries. Easier to just spend $10 and have a decade's worth of replacements on hand than to go out and buy 1-packs for $3 from the drug store every time you need a replacement.
