4A decent replacement pump works with Drinkwell 360 too !
    By Bob 2012
I'm a supporter of using a watering system for my furry friends. I have 3 cats, and keeping them hydrated with fresh clean water is important to me. I've used quite a few different watering systems, and one thing in common with them is pump failure. I have experienced pump failure between 8 months and 3 years, and I cannot conclude that any one version is better or worse than the other. Remember that these inexpensive pumps run 24 hours a day, and are NOT commercial grade units. If they were, watering system costs would increase substantially. I normally list pros, and cons in my reviews, however today I'll provide lessons learned and hints to increasing the life of your pumps.

    1. Keep it wet! Over time, I have learned that the biggest factor in long pump life is to NEVER EVER run your pump dry. The motors do not contain bearings, are made of plastic, and need water to keep them from getting too hot or causing premature wear in the pump. If you keep your reservoir full, you'll increase your pump life.

    2. Keep it clean! You've all seen it. The occasional dead bug in the water. The slime build up on the surfaces. The same thing happens inside the pump too. When you clean your system, disassemble the pump and clean it too. check the impeller to see if there isn't a hair or 2 stuck around it. I use a toothbrush to clean the inside of my pump. Just remember to put all the parts back when you reassemble it.

    3. Compatibility. I own several Petmate products, and I also use the Drinkwell 360 system. While manufacturers have been stepping up and offering replacement parts, some consumers look for less expensive alternatives. While that choice is entirely yours - I purchased this pump to replace my Drinkwell 360's, and did so with no issue. If you do the same, be sure to save the long shaft from your Drinkwell so you can insert it into the Petmate pump.
The photos I have attached show the Petmate pump, and Drinkwell pump side by side. Specification wise, the Petmate pump is more powerful, however in actual use, there was no noticeable different in my watering system. Also note, that there are very few parts inside of the pump. It disassembles easily so you can clean it quickly.

    I hope this review helps

1NOT the correct replacement for Drinkwell Pagoda Ceramic Pet Fountain
    By Norma L.
Less than a month later and it no longer works. I clean the pump weekly, make sure the TWO filters with my fountain are clean or replace them, and it still doesn't work. It is NOT the same pump as the one you get when you purchase the Drinkwell Pagoda ceramic pet water fountain, and I would not recommend you purchase this one for that reason. It does not have enough lift to work properly. Now I have to rush a new pump to get here before I go on vacation.

1Lasted about a week before this replacement pump slowly died
    By Kindle Customer
Got this as a replacement pump for my PetSafe Drinkwell Ceramic Pagoda Fountain. Let me tell you, when I purchased the Pagoda at a pet store (yes, it was a bit pricey) the pump was awesome. Water was coming out of the top of the tower like no tomorrow. Slowly it started to fade until about a month ago it was a slow trickle (five months of service). I had cleaned and replaced the external filters (about once a month), and took the pump apart to clean it (it really wasn't dirty) but the original pump slowly started to get worse, and I decided to replace it.

Purchased this replacement pump (yes, I know it doesn't state it's for the Petmate Pagoda fountain, but it fits just fine, just like the original) and even at first, this pump was a pale shade as compared to the original pump. The newly purchased replacement would only pump about a quarter of the water as the original when I pulled it out of the box and installed it. Then, it only got worse. After having it for a week, it was literally pumping tears, like drip, drip, drip. This was worse then the original pump at it's worst, and I've only had this replacement for a week!

I've never let the water get low in the bowl (usually keep it filled with water at a quarter to a half inch from the top) but this replacement sucks. Took the new pump apart and cleaned and put it back together to no avail. Water still barely comes out. Really not happy with this purchase now.
