Pros & Cons of this Aquarium Kit
By Karen Ann Ellison
*Sleek, compact design
*No hang-on filter; the back compartment contains the filter mechanics. It's safer and more aesthetically pleasing.
*Made of glass and not cheap plastic like you find at most pet stores
*The light is bright, but not too bright. When I turn it on, it doesn't bother my fish at all.
*The light and the lid are easy to remove for water changes.
*You WILL need to modify this tank to keep a betta! Set the filter for the lowest setting and put a bit of filter sponge over the intake (see my 3rd photo).
*Even with these modifications, the filtration was a bit too much for Mario (my betta) so I have the filter turned off. I think that it depends on the betta you keep and how tolerant they are of water currents.
*Doesn't come with a heater.
*You can add a heater, but we had to cut a notch out of the black plastic part to accommodate the heater's cord.
*My husband and I are experienced fishkeepers. However, the sparse set-up instructions left us frustrated and it took longer than necessary to get this tank up and running.
Despite the cons, I would recommend this tank to experienced fishkeepers. It's not really a "plug and play" set-up for people new to the hobby. I'm glad to report that Mario is a happy, active fish who enjoys the swimming room of his aquarium.
Happy Fishkeeping! :)

Great tank with a little DIY
Got this for some live plants (changed light to a Wave Point as my plants didn't grow otherwise.. one low light plant made it for three months before beginning to die as the rest had already turned significantly more brownish)
and a single Betta.
Punctured a handful of small holes (around the size a paper puncher would make) in the filter tubing to reduce flow, and set it on its slowest setting so it didn't blow my Betta around the tank. Otherwise this wouldn't have been suitable.
PROTIP:The Hydor 25 and 50 watt heaters fit into the filter motor compartment and work extremely well. I had an aqueon mini heater there before, but decided to invest and get something that wouldn't burn out or fry my fish!
This has been a wonderful tank, my Betta seems extremely happy, even with the absolute minimum amount of space. Besides cherry shrimp and small snails, I wouldn't recommend putting anything larger in there.
Here are two images, one with fake and one with real plants. Currently remodelling and will update again after its finished.
Duckweed is kept, java moss flourishing, one anubia. Dosed excel and a few other ferts from seachem. The light works very well for low light non co2 systems. Tubing needs a few holes poked into and filter set on lowest setting. Tube size is 1/2" I.D. x 5/8" O.D. Silicone Tubing and can be purchased here for cheap if you need another filter tube. I couldn't find any other resources for it and fluval doesn't sell replacements so hope that helps!

BEST TANK FOR THE OFFICE
I absolutely adore this aquarium. I was at the pet store buying stuff for my 50 gal at home when i saw this lonely little Betta on a shelf who was discolored with a broken fin and looked like his days were numbered. For some reason it broke my heart and I just knew I had to help him. I bought this tank originally for my office desk to keep some plants but I emptied it out and decorated it to put the Betta in. I named him Ryba (fish in Russian) and 2 weeks later he is swimming around, with beautiful radiant color and is happy as can be. This tank is super easy to maintain, easy to set up, and is a perfect size for my little guy (PLEEEAASEEE DONT PUT A BETTA IN ONE OF THE SMALL TANKS ADVERTISED FOR THEM). I put in a Marina 7 watt heater (does wonders) a marimo moss ball for extra filtration, decor, and oxygen, a betta leaf for Ryba to rest on, a plant, and a squidward house which he loves to hide and play in. Its super easy to clean i only do a filter wash once every 2 weeks. My co worker has a betta in a bowl which he has to clean every week, eventually he gave in and bought this tank as well. This tank is just perfect. Also easy to move (ive switched desks twice) and the LED lamp adds a beautiful touch, its very modern looking and fits right in to the modern office space and i get lots of compliments and cubicle visits from other co workers on the tank. Only thing i recommend is replacing the carbon pack that comes with a filter with a Purigen 100ml bag for ULTIMATE water clearness, especially if you plan on keeping other fish in here besides a betta (which i dont recommend due to spacing). Other than that, amazing tank. Im happy, Ryba is happy, and most importantly, alive.
SIDE NOTE: A lot of people are complaining about the current being too strong for a betta, the filter box thingy has a little switch you can adjust the flow of the current, i put it on low and added a pre-filter sponge and Ryba adores the feeling of the water coming out of it and he usually chills on the sponge.
