1Much flimsier now than it used to be
    By Ashby Rags
I bought one of these last year at a pet store and it was amazingly sturdy. It survived hundreds of hours of intense chewing by my terrier. Finally he destroyed it, and we immediately bought this replacement on Amazon. But *it wasn't the same thing*. It was the same shape and color and brand name, but much much flimsier. Just looking at it, we could see how the rubber was thinner and stretchier. And indeed, our terrier tore it apart easily, within 10 minutes.

Investigating further, I went to a pet store and saw on the rack both the hardy and the flimsy kind of ball, with exactly the same price and SKU. My guess is that the company has just recently switched to a cheaper manufacturer that makes the flimsy balls, and I was seeing the last of the old hardy balls.

Here's a trick: With the hardy kind, one of the hexagons is not a hole but filled-in, with "jw" written on it. With the flimsy kind, all the hexagons are cut out the same.

Anyway, if you see that the reviews seem to be "love-it-or-hate-it", this is why: Some customers got a totally different product than others did. Mine was the flimsy kind. The customer reviews lead me to believe that everybody is getting the flimsy kind these days.

1Poor Choice of Material = Destroyed
    By cracked screen
I ordered this toy thinking that it looked like it might be at least decently durable. I own two miniature wienie dogs. They have small mouths as they are around 10lbs and so they need smaller toys. Most balls are a little too big but this was the perfect size. That is all the good that I can say about this product. After 5 minutes of play, the ball is torn up. It is made out of a material that is foam-like and is very soft. I can tell that my dog really loved it, but I am afraid to give it back to her as she will surely ingest the pieces if I were to let her have it back.

On the plus side, I bought this from Amazon and they were awesome and completely stood behind the product. When I told them what happened they gave me a refund and I don't even have to hassle with sending it back.

2Different from earlier versions and not as good.
    By Jack D. Smith
The problem with a toy like this (and the related reviews) is that, for many, it will be fine. It's a nice toy and, if you're dog is not a strong chewer, it may very well last. But, if your dog has strong jaws... this toy probably won't last. I bought one for my daughter's 6-month old Weimardoodle and he had sections of it broken loose in under 15 minutes.

The reason I bought this is that my daughter has an earlier version of the toy that HAS lasted... and I thought I'd get another. But there is definitely a difference between the first and second toy. The earlier one has a logo stamped on it and seems to be a bit thicker and of a different (sturdier) makeup. So, even if you're had an earlier version you were happy with... you can't assume the new one will last as well.

It's hard to find good chew toys for strong-jawed dogs. This isn't one.
